Ohio journalism professor featured in Athens Film Festival selection
Prof. Pat Washburn of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism is featured in “Newspaper of Record: The Pittsburgh Courier, 1907-1965,” a documentary film that will be shown in the 2010 Athens Film Festival. Showtime is Sunday, April 25, 5:15 (Athena Cinema). The 75 minute film is directed by Kenneth Love.
A new documentary by Kenneth Love reveals the whole story of The Pittsburgh Courier, the leading black newspaper of the last century. It was both a journal of African American life and a muckraking crusader in the vanguard of the civil rights movement. This documentary captures and preserves the stories of the men and women who created and sustained an important Black institution, and who, through the Pittsburgh Courier, helped to change the world.
